Compressor Research Facility Rig 4 Project Analysis Report. Volume I. Summary and Recommendations.

Abstract

The main purpose of the CRF effort has been to identify the compressor research test facility that will provide the means for obtaining the necessary data required to gain a basic understanding of the steady state and dynamic behavior of full scale multi-stage compressors and fans compatible with the 1970's, 80's and beyond. The project analysis activities included the investigation of multiple approaches to satisfy the total CRF objectives and resulted in the identification of three basic facility concepts. These concepts are referred to throughout the report as Systems I, II, and III. System I is defined as a single drive open air cycle system with provision for closing of the air cycle at a later time. (Provision is defined as sizing of control room, signal conditioning room, other major facility areas, proper gearing, and selection of operating conditions compatible with implied future growth.) System II is defined as the single drive closed air cycle facility resulting from implementation of the growth provision defined in System I. System III is a dual drive closed air cycle test facility. (Author)
