Eight-Second Delay Fin Release Mechanism for Use with MAU-91B/B Bomb Fin.

Abstract

Maxson Ordnance Division, Maxson Electronics Corporation, undertook the task of designing, evaluating, fabricating, and qualifying an 8-Second Delay Fin Release Mechanism for use with the MAU-91B/B Bomb Fin, to include an accompanying delay cartridge and a lanyard initiation system. The mechanism was designed around proven concepts, and made extensive use of economical, readily machinable metals and standard pyrotechnic compositions. Testing was held to the minimum required to assure a predicted reliability of 0.997 at 90% confidence level. (Author)
