Structures and Materials Activities at DFVLR - The German Research Institution of Aeronautics and Astronautics,

Abstract

A recent reorganization of the German National Aeronautics and Astronautics Research effort has brought all structures and materials activities within five major organizations: the Institute for Flight Structures, Braunschweig, directed by Prof. W. Thielemann; the Institue for Materials Research, Porz-Wahn, directed by Dr. W. Bunk; the Aero-elasticity Department, Gottingen, directed by Dr. H. Forsching; the Institute for Construction Research, Stuttgart, directed by Prof. U. Hutter; and the Thermomechanics Working Group, Porz-Wahn, headed by Dr. K. Schniffner. Able workers were recruited to staff the laboratories and a considerable investment was made in capital equipment (total annual expenditure for DFVLR stood at nearly $30 m in 1969). (Author)
