Tapped Delay Line Matched Filter.

Abstract

A program directed toward evaluating the capability of elastic surface waves for realizing multiple tap matched filters was conducted. Various methods for generating and tapping these waves were conducted, together with a design analysis for the performance of such a device. On this basis, a selection of piezoelectric quartz was made and two 1023 bit, phase coded filters were constructed and evaluated. Performance as code generators was in good agreement with the analysis, but the loss in correlation was very much larger than predicted. Possible causes for this are discussed. On the basis of this work, it appears that near optimum filters with predictable performance can be fabricated using elastic surface wave technology. (Author)
