Six-Component Force Measurement for LANCE Propulsion System Testing.
Abstract
The objective discussed in the report is the attainment of accurate six-component thrust measurement during LANCE Propulsion System testing. A flexured hard mount facility to accommodate propulsion system testing at a 90-degree quadrant elevation and under ambient temperature conditions was utilized. A thorough calibration program was implemented to evaluate the inherent interaction effects of the various components. Calibration hardware was devised to provide servo-controlled and cycled input loads to the measurement system while the complete data acquisition system was utilized to monitor the inputs and the multiple outputs simultaneously. Results of the calibration program are given in detail. It was concluded that a capability essentially equal to the requirement had been obtained. (Author)
