Investigation of an Experimental Annular-Shaped Integrated Transmission Oil Cooler Design

Abstract

Under this contract, Boeing designed and built an experimental, annular-shaped transmission oil cooler for use on the bottom of the forward- rotor transmission of the CH-47C helicopter. Subsequent tests indicate that this annular-shaped cooler with a radial airflow direction is practical, from a producibility and manufacturing feasibility standpoint, for helicopter and V/ STOL aircraft.
