Troposcatter Improvement Program 689A.

Abstract

On-air tests were conducted at operational sites to determine the value of selected techniques in improving troposcatter system performance. These selected techniques were forward acting linear combiner, angle diversity, PDC-4 predetection combiner, adaptive modulation index, adaptive bandwidth control, forward load control and Deltaplex Mark II. This summary report discusses the condition of the operational system and its impact upon the evaluation of these techniques. Recommendations to improve system performance within the state of the art are provided. The approach can be implemented in easy stages and provides solutions to known problems. System complexity will be reduced and maintenance procedures simplified simultaneously with performance improvements, if properly implemented. (Author)
