Ambient Temperature Binder Cure Catalysts for Hydroxy Terminated Systems.
Abstract
A number of trivalent iron and manganese chelates have been synthesized. Many of these compounds are valuable catalysts. Particularly Ferric-1-3-diphenyl-1, 3-pentanedionate and ferric dehydracetate may prove useful. The former catalytic activity approaches Fe(AA)3 but is chemically more stable, while the latter is less active than Fe(AA)3 and may be better suited where long potlife is required. It is shown that it is very difficult if not impossible for a simple catalyst to strike the desired balance between potlife and acceptable times of cure. Methods which may overcome this difficulty are suggested. (Author)
