Flightworthy Graphite Fiber Reinforced Composite Aircraft Primary Structural Assemblies. Volume I. Tasks 1 and 2.

Abstract

The report presents a detailed description of progress to design, fabricate, and test five graphite composite structural demonstration items. Significant advancements toward making graphite composite materials reproducible and cost effective for primary aircraft applications are reported. Over 100 combinations of graphite-resin combinations have been evaluated and considered for use in fabricating program demonstration items. Materials characterization data on these material system combinations are reported. Element tests performed to verify preliminary design concepts for the selected F-5 supersonic fighter structural demonstration items are also reported. (Author)
