Shock Wave Filling of Chambers.

Abstract

The report presents methods for calculating the pressure-time history in a chamber exposed to gas overpressure through an entrance duct, emphasizing the overpressure of shock waves. Most of the possible modes of shock-induced flow are considered. Consideration is given to the chamber filled by gas entering through more than one entrance and exiting from the chamber to other ducts or chambers. High-pressure shock tube tests support the equations derived to calculate the chamber-filling pressures. An equation is also developed which gives the transmitted shock pressure in a duct when a known static pressure time is applied to the duct entrance. (Author)
