Extension of Development of AFRPL Flanged Connectors for Rocket Fluid Systems.
Abstract
Problems were encountered with the sealing of large, high-pressure, stainless steel flanged connectors. Although tentative seal designs were developed to overcome this problem, it was not possible to verify the seal designs. An extension program was undertaken to verify selected seal sizes experimentally. This was accomplished satisfactorily. In addition, nominal dimensions were developed for AFRPL flanged connectors for high-pressure (up to 6000 psi) cryogenic service and for high-pressure (up to 6000 psi) hot-gas service to 600F. It is recommended that these dimensions be used in conjunction with those contained in AD-857 062 to prepare military standards and specifications for AFRPL stainless steel flanged connectors for cryogenic and hot-gas service. Connectors for all pressures and all tubing sizes up through 8-inch diameter should be included. Additional developmental work is recommended in regard to connectors for tubing sizes larger than 8-inch diameter. (Author)
