Investigation of the Diffraction Anomalies of Finite Wire Gratings.

Abstract

The anomalies of a diffraction grating having a finite number of thin-wire elements are both calculated and measured. Based on the coefficients of the first one or two modes in the expansion for the scattering of a plane wave by a cylinder, simultaneous equations are written and solved for the radiating amplitudes of the elements of 10-wire gratings. The amplitudes are summed and squared to approximate the power in a diffracted order of the grating. The calculated power in diffracted orders vs. angle of incidence curves are presented for thin conducting wire gratings for both s- and p-polarization, and for lossy dielectric gratings for p-polarization.
