An Investigation of a Large Screen Discrete Element Matrix Display.

Abstract

A study program of techniques to implement a large screen discrete element display is discussed. The screen is to be 20 feet high by 20 feet wide and is to contain 921,600 elements. The three approaches studied were: (1) Plasma (Ionized gas discharge), (2) Nematic (liquid crystal) and (3) Electrochemical. Preliminary cells were built and evaluated for all three techniques, and a 256 element display model was built using the nematic liquid crystal technique. (Author)
