Minimum Cost Design Booster Pressurization System Injector Development.

Abstract

In order to achieve the low cost goal of the Minimum Cost Design Booster (MCDB) Program, without severe performance losses, a new level of simplicity in design and operation of all associated components and subsystems is necessary. Main Tank Injection (MTI) for propellant tank pressurization offers both simplicity and high performance and was, therefore, of significant interest for the MCDB. Prior experimentation had established the feasibility of the MTI concept but the size and pressure range desired in the MCDB precluded a direct transfer of design data. This effort is primarily concerned with the first step in experimentally verifying the practicability of MTI for the MCDB. The results of water flow tests of MTI injector designs are presented, along with comments as to areas of concern which could not be resolved. (Author)
