Design Concept for a High Performance Airborne 16MM Electron Beam Film Recorder for TV-Type Sensors.

Abstract

A design concept has been produced for a high performance airborne - 16MM electron beam film recorder. Certain design features lead to the conclusion that the recorder will provide excellent performance in applications involving airborne TV type sensors. The design concept includes innovations in packaging, vacuum techniques, film cartridges and electronic control. A switch selectable scan rate feature has been incorporated to insure scan compatability with a variety of airborne sensors. The film cartridge design permits simple reloading of film during a mission flight. Resolution is in excess of 1000 TVL or 50 lp/mm at 50% response. Contrast ratio (dynamic range) is 200:1 measured on the film (46 db) or 15 shades of gray. Recording time per cartridge is 51 minutes with cartridge change in 2 minutes or less including vacuum pump down. (Author)
