Design of a 4-Bit X-Band Phase Shifter.

Abstract

A preliminary design of a 4-bit X-band phase shifter, employing 8 diodes in 2-stub and branch hybrid coupler bits was designed and tested . A design using series-mounted diodes for the 22 1/2 deg. and 45 deg. bits and choke stubs on the hybrid coupler 90 deg. and 180 deg. bits, which eliminates dc blocking capacitors was also developed. Compensation for junction parasitic reactances on the hybrid couplers, and radiation losses were found to be the major problems. A radiating element transition was designed, and the design of a 4-bit bias driver circuit started. (Author)
