Evaluation of OPS-II Operational Program for the Automatic Carrier Landing System.

Abstract

The operational computer program for the AN/SPN-42 has been under development since the introduction of the system in 1965. This report discusses the present form of the program and some of the rationale used in the development processes to date. It is concluded that the OPS-II program now in use is acceptable and sufficiently flexible to meet the operational and developmental needs of the ACLS at this stage of the systems development. It is recommended that the program development be continued in conjunction with work on the various aspects of the ACLS including design improvements to the AN/SPN-42, compatibility with the air traffic control program in the NTDS, and implementation of peculiar operational requirements for the users.
