Space-Diversity Reception for Fleet Satellite Communications,
Abstract
Sea tests aboard USS JOUETT (DGL 29) show that a system using multiple antennas with diversity combination has an unshadowed view of the satellite regardless of ship attitude. The system provides hemispheric coverage and reduces fading and multipath effects as well as the antenna blockage commonly experienced aboard ship. It also provides advantages in S/N, circuit reliability, and equipment simplicity. (Author)
