Electronic Systems of the Future.
Abstract
The report is offered as a basis for the electronic systems theory of the future. The theory represents a break from the past in the broad scale application of state variable theory to the electronic system. This break was achieved by offering a general electronic system which has two ingredients: It encompasses all future systems into a single mathematical framework; and it can be directly related to modern control theory and hence can utilize the rapid progress underway in this field of research. The report described the generalized system and pointed out the basic state vector to define the system. The system optimization and the optimum estimation of the system state were considered with the conclusion that the former was the driving force of research in control theory but that the latter would be more important in the electronics theory. It was further concluded that the Kalman filter should be used in system estimation. Finally, it was concluded that the problems previously encountered in application of the state variable theory to practical electronics were not germane to the research on electronic systems.
