Extraction Procedure for Rubberized-Tar Paving Mixtures.

Abstract

An extraction method for rubberized tar was developed and validated. The basic procedure is a modification of Method A of the Standard Method of Test for Quantitative Extraction of Bitumen from Bituminous Paving Mixtures, ASTM Designation D 2172. The modification involves use of a primary and a secondary solvent: a material derived from tar distillation called quinoline and 1,1,1-trichloroethane, respectively. Results of tests using the suggested method indicate that the method is valid for nonporous and porous aggregates over a wide range of rubberized-tar contents. (Author)
