Subsonic Aerodynamic Characteristics of Close-Coupled Canards with Varying Area and Position Relative to a 50 deg Swept Wing.
Abstract
The use of a close-coupled canard allows aircraft to pull higher lift coefficients through normal tail controlled aircraft. In addition the close coupled canard delays the angle of stall. In order to obtain data on the close-coupled canard effects, a test was performed in the NSRDC 8 by 10-foot Subsonic Wind Tunnel. Tested were both high and low wing aircraft models and four different canard sizes varying in area from 10% to 25% of the aircraft wing area. These canards were tested at seven different positions and seven canard deflection angles at aircraft angle of attack up to 20 degrees. (Author)
