Core Free Czochralski Ruby.

Abstract

A modified, resistance heated, all-metal furnace has been successfully used to grow 'core free' rubies by the Czochralski technique. These crystals are suitable for laser applications. Rods up to 3 inches long and up to 1/2 inch diameter have been fabricated. The effective distribution coefficient for chromium oxide in this system is determined to be 0.75 plus or minus 0.05. Further testing and evaluation of material has been initiated. (Author)
