Performance Characteristics of a Face Pumped, Face Cooled Laser, the MINI-FPL.

Abstract

It has been demonstrated that the thermo-optic distortion and depolarization problem in high repetition rate glass laser oscillators can be essentially solved by using a General Electric configurational concept, the 'Mini-FPL' (Face Pumped Laser), which provides for uniform pumping and cooling across the aperture of the laser beam. An oscillator with a 1.3 sq cm rectangular cross section beam has been tested in this program to output levels of over 20 W. Experimental results are included.
