Titi Environmental Effects on the Performance of a Single Fragment Munition

Abstract

The Tri-Service Degradation Effects Program (DEP) is studying the behavior of single projectiles in selected environments. This report covers the testing of various small arms ammunition in a titi environment. The project involved the determination of projectile velocity decay, projectile deflection, and projectile stability. The testing consisted of Mann barrel firings through a system of velocity screens and witness panels which were placed at predetermined intervals in the titi environment. The test area was surveyed to establish the exact location of two twenty-five-foot sections of titi. Velocity measurements and deflection data were taken before and after each section of vegetation.
