Electronic Viewing for Image Interpretation.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the potential of recent electronic and electro-optical technology for meaningful assistance to the interpreter in the 1970-1980 decade. Functional requirements of the image interpreter (operator), as well as his psychophysical limitations were studied. The literature was researched for technological posture in optical viewing systems, laser and holographic displays, electronic viewing devices, storage and retrieval systems, and auxiliary devices and techniques. Based on this knowledge and on equipment tests, system evaluations and projections were made to arrive at recommended design concepts for the near future and to establish guidelines for future research and development in the application of electronic viewing to the interpretation task.
