Computer Assisted Naval Applications of Holography.

Abstract

Two systems found in an earlier study to possess potential in naval operational applications were analyzed in greater depth to assess their capabilities and limitations. An underwater acoustic holographic imaging system and an aircraft carrier holographic imaging landing system were examined to identify practical considerations involved in their possible implementation, and areas where further research and development might be most needed or productive. The state-of-the-art of recyclable holographic recording materials was examined to consider their use in real-time systems employing analog techniques, and of computer requirements and capabilities for use in real-time systems employing digital reconstruction techniques.
