Materials and Methods for Joint-Sealing Landing Mat Airfields.

Abstract

A program to determine materials and methods for in-place sealing of joints in landing mat airfields is presented. This consists of (1) data collection, survey and research available literature; (2) contact with government agencies and applicable sealant manufacturing industries; (3) investigation of qualified products and the techniques and equipment required for use; (4) a complete program of laboratory testing of all candidate products; and (5) field test and demonstration using the sealants that eventuated from the study. Principal factors in final product evaluation were pot life-vs-shelf life-vs-mixing and application devices-vs-cost. Two commercial products were selected and are described. (Author)
