Experimental Aerodynamics of Multiple Weapon Carriage.

Abstract

The objective of this effort was to define the physical phenomena associated with the carriage and release of weapons in the multiple mode. Experimental flow field data was obtained and weapon static stability characteristics were defined in the presence of a parent aircraft. The data revealed that the flow field beneath an aircraft loaded with weapons is a small perturbation field. Weapon static stability derivatives are not affected by the presence of a parent aircraft. Since aerodynamic interference must be considered in any attempt at predicting a weapon separation trajectory, an empirical correction was derived which permits the calculation of weapon separation trajectories.
