Digital Equipment Susceptibility.
Abstract
The report presents the results of the second quarter effort of a 22-month investigation into the measurement procedures and techniques for electromagnetic susceptibility testing of digital receiving equipment. The activity period covered by this report is from 1 December 1970 to 28 February 1971. The major effort of this quarter has been the establishment of a baseline relative to the digital modulation techniques to be simulated and analyzed, to the modulation structure of the interference to be expected, and to the detailed functional description of the digital receiver/decoder implementation to be analyzed and simulated. The basic RF-IF receiver characteristic of the AN/GRC-103 has been selected for all three chosen modulation techniques: PCM-FM, four phase differential phase shift keying (40DPSK), and FSK. The bit timing recovery of the AN/GRC-103 has been selected for the PCM-FM bit retiming along with other appropriate recovery methods for PSK and 40DPSK. Primary expected interference structures are CW, FM by sine wave, SSB by random noise, and both pulsed RF and pulsed DC. The analysis must consider interference entering the receiver by the four areas of antenna port, case, and both signal and power leads. Analysis has determined the loop characteristics of the PCM-FM bit timing recovery of the AN/GRC-144 radio set and the TD-202 and TD-203 PCM multiplexers. The PCM-FM receiver simulation progress is also presented. (Author)
