OMEGA Navigational Set, AN/ARN-99(XN-1).
Abstract
The final Engineering Report contains all relevant data on the design, development and operation of the AN/ARN-99(XN-1) OMEGA Navigation Set which was built under contract N00019-68-C-0355 from the Naval Air Systems Command. The report documents the signal processing hardware as an overview of functional characteristics, in terms of signal processing and filtering dynamics, and in terms of electrical design and mechanical construction. The hardware includes the antenna, the antenna coupler, the three-channel OMEGA receiver, and the control-indicator panel. The computer software, which performs the major processing tasks of automatic synchronization at turn-on, continuous signal tracking and Kalman filtering, propagation prediction and global navigation, is described in flow diagrams and by the basic mechanization equations from which the software programs were derived. The software control of the receiver hardware by the functions of antenna switching, self test and system calibration during interburst periods is similarly treated, as are the control and indicator input/output procedures. Those analyses which pertain to the design and evaluation of the OMEGA Navigation Set, such as maintainability, thermal, electromagnetic interference and human factors, are also included, as are the flight test evaluation summaries.
