The Development and Evaluation of a Ultra High Resolution Television System.

Abstract

The report describes the development of a Ultra-High Resolution television system, capable of operating at 2047 or 1023 lines/30 frames per second, and the evaluation of the television system with three high-resolution vidicons. The report describes the electronic circuitry developed, in particular the extremely wideband video preamplifier and video processor. The evaluation phase of the program includes data concerning the performance of the television system and the three vidicons. The evaluation found that the television system is capable of operating at the proposed 2047 and 1023 TV lines/30 frames per second and meets the design goal of 90 MHz video bandwidth. The evaluation of the three vidicons included: (1) the RCA type 4586, (2) the General Electrodynamics type 1347-001 one inch electrostatic deflection, electrostatic focus vidicons employing an additional magnetic focus coil for improved resolution, and (3) a GE type Z7940 1-1/2 inch electrostatic deflection, magnetic focus (FPS) vidicon.
