The Solution of the Linearized Equations of Motion for Autorotating Bodies - Mass Imbalance and Trim Misalignment Effects.

Abstract

A closed form solution is presented for the motion of an autorotating body having the geometric center fixed. It is assumed that the spin rate is near terminal and that the angular motion of the spin axis is relatively small. The aerodynamic moments considered are the Magnus moment, the yaw and roll damping moment, and the yawing moment due to sideslip. The perturbing factors included in the equations are the mass imbalance and trim misalignment. The effect of the mass imbalance on the spin axis pitching motion of nearly spherical bomblets is considered in detail. (Author)
