Atmospheric Emission at High Altitudes.
Abstract
The purpose of this program was to obtain data concerning the atmospheric emission in the region from 3.0 microns to 29.0 microns. A series of balloon flights was performed to obtain data pertinent to this investigation. This report summarizes the balloon flight program and references the report where the data obtained during the various flights are presented. Data obtained late in the program concerning the atmospheric emission in the 17.0 microns to 29.0 microns region are presented in this report. The emission data obtained during the program covering the region from 10.0 microns to 12.0 microns have been used to obtain the distribution of HNO3 on the dates of the flights and the profiles obtained from these data are presented. During this program balloon flights were made from Fairbanks, Alaska. Data obtained during one of these flights indicate that there are emissions in the 12.0 microns region associated with auroral activity. These data were analyzed in more detail and the results are also presented. (Author)
