Quinine Sulfate as a Fluroescence Quantum Yield Standard.

Abstract

The suitability of the widely used fluorescence standard, quinine sulfate dissolved in dilute H2SO4, as a fluorescence quantum yield standard has been examined, using samples obtained from several sources. The relative fluorescence quantum yield of quinine sulfate was evaluated with excitation from 240 through 400 nm and was found to have no unexplainable deviations from a constant value. The relative fluorescence quantum yields of quinine sulfate and 2-aminopurine were investigated, and the shift of the fluorescence emission band with wavelength of excitation was determined for several different compounds.
