Psychological Operations Studies--Vietnam. Volume 1

Abstract

This is Volume I of a two-volume research report entitled, 'Psychological Operations Studies-Vietnam.' Together, the two volumes constitute the final report covering the results of some 17 months of basic and applied research in psychological operations in Vietnam. The project was executed and the final report written on-site in the field during the period between September 1969 and June 1971, under the sponsorship of the Advanced Research Projects Agency, Department of Defense. This volume deals mainly with basic research and theory, discusses requirements for developing psychological operations as an expanding body of scientific theory and method, and describes research conducted in conjunction with specific psychological operations campaigns. The basic research, focused on measurement of psyops' effectiveness, also tested salient propositions relating psychological operations and defection.
