KMU-327/A Optimized Wing and Tail Boom Kit for A/A45Y-1A Defoliant Spray System.

Abstract

The objective of this program was to design, develop, fabricate, and install an optimized, internal wing boom for the C-123 aircraft and A/A45Y-1A Internal Defoliant Dispenser. Nozzle locations were to be optimized during prototype flight test to produce a maximum swath width, with 300 feet being the desired minimum. The program was to design, develop, fabricate, and install an optimized external wing and/or tail boom for the UC-123K aircraft and A/A45Y-1A Internal Defoliant Dispenser. The boom kit replaced the existing UC-123K spray booms and added an inboard spray boom between the reciprocating engine nacelle and fuselage and a tail boom mounted beneath the horizontal stabilizer. Nozzle valves were added to insure positive spray shut-off after closing of the spray control valve. (Author)
