Improved High-Temperature Solid Film Lubricants.

Abstract

Solid lubricant compact development was conducted using an aluminum phosphate, barium fluoride, calcium fluoride lubricant dispersed in a silver matrix with various fillers and reinforcements. Sixty-one compositions were hot pressed in graphite dies and evaluated in 158 room temperature flexural tests and 166 1200 F wear tests. Selected compositions were fabricated as friction test specimens and as sleeve bearings. Sleeve bearing fabrication was accomplished by both unidirectional hot pressing and by hot isostatic pressing in a helium atmosphere. (Author)
