Evolution of the NWC Thermal Standard. Part 2. Comparison of Theory With Experiment.

Abstract

The objective was to compare experimental data obtained from Thermal Standards with predicted temperatures. The prediction equation used was developed in Part 1. The standard deviation of the difference between predicted and measured values of maximum temperature was 6.79F based on a total of 229 days data from China Lake and Panama. The maximum temperature occurred on the top of the sphere and typically at 1 to 2 hours after sun noon. The temperature excess near the bottom was about 1/3 as great as that near the top. (Author)
