Photolysis of Ketones Reactions of Alkyl and Perfluoroalkyl Radicals.

Abstract

Five reprints of the authors' describe free radical reactions: the gas-phase thermal reaction between perfluoroacetone and propene in the temperature range from 448 to 687K. The photolysis of 3-pentanone-2,2,4,4-d4, which has been studied over the temperature range from 20 to 407C, was found to provide a convenient source of partially deuterated ethyl radicals for studying the kinetics of ethyl radical reactions with molecules R-H. The effects of ethene and ethane on the photolysis of acetone have been studied from 30 to 350C. A current theory on cyclic alkyl radical isomerization has been disputed. Porapak Q, a porous polymer bead, has been shown to contain active sites which undergo exchange with the alpha-hydrogens of ketones, and products have been generated in a Toepler pump from a variety of hydrocarbons and ketones.
