Digital Equipment Susceptibility.

Abstract

The report presents the results of the third-quarter effort of a 22-month investigation into the measurement procedures and techniques for electromagnetic susceptibility testing of digital receiving equipment. The period covered is from 1 March 1971 to 30 May 1971. Major efforts of this quarter have been the definition of the manifestations of interference within the receiver and analysis to determine the output probability of error and baseband data timing jitter as a function of the interference-to-signal ratios for CW, pulsed CW, SSB modulated by noise, and like modulation interferences for PCM-FM and 40DPSK digital modulation. The time response of the interference-perturbed baseband data signal has been derived and evaluated for several types and levels of interference to determine both the baseband data jitter and the error rate. Tests on the hybrid simulation of the PCM-FM receiver indicate responses and characteristics very close to the measured or predicted characteristics of the AN/GRC-103 receiver. (Author)
