Handbook of Vehicle Electrical Penetrators, Connectors and Harnesses for Deep Ocean Applications

Abstract

The factors involved in the design and development of Deep Submergence Vehicle electrical hull penetrators, connectors, and harnesses are outlined. Designs which have seen use over the years are noted. The advantages and limitations of these designs are detailed. Recommendations for the proper design of electrical penetrators, connectors and harnesses are offered. Suggested test programs to assure the design adequacy are detailed. While this work is primarily directed to components used on Deep Submergence Vehicles, the Handbook notes that these components can be effectively used on other systems such as habitats, deep moored objects, and other similar devices.
