Methods and Materials in Barnacle Studies,

Abstract

The aims of the work on barnacles, preliminary to the actual use of barnacle cement for any purpose, are several: The collection, rearing, and maintenance of living animals for life studies; the collection of cement for analysis; the identification of the cementing organs and the determination of the cementing mechanism; and the determination of the chemical nature of the cement. The laboratory specimens, the site and method of their collection, and the various methods by which it is hoped to get information are the subject of this paper. (Author)
