A Study of the Requirements, Preliminary Concepts, and Feasibility of a New System to Process Medical/Surgical Supplies in the Field. Volume II. Administrative Summary.

Abstract

A study was conducted to determine the feasibility of developing a new system for the preparation (cleaning, decontamination, and packaging) and sterilization (monitoring and sterilizing) of medical and surgical items in the Army Medical Department worldwide. The study included identification of personnel requirements (education, number, career pattern, MOS, promotion, and incentives) for this activity. The system was to embody in its design the versatility, efficiency, and mobility that was consistent with a reduction of the logistical burdens of size and weight for the Army in the field, and was to accomplish the most efficient use of the technology and mobility visualized for 1985. The most salient findings and recommendations of the study are presented.
