A Program to Determine the Potential of New Approaches to Organometallic Antifouling Protective Systems.

Abstract

The report discusses research on potential antifouling compounds. A device for measuring the release rates of potential antifouling agents from potential antifouling coatings was developed. The syntheses of five potential antifouling agents have been completed or nearly completed. These materials are designed to explore the potential of developing 'wide spectrum' antifouling agents by incorporating two heavy metal poisons in the same molecule. The compounds synthesized include: 10,10'-Oxybisphenoxarsine; Bistriphenylstannyl phenylarsinate; Tetrakistriphenylstannyl lead; o-Carboxyphenyldi-(p-tolyl) arsine copper (II); 3-Acetylamino-4-hydroxy-5-mercuric-hydroxide phenylarsonic acid; Triethylstannyl diphenylarsinate; Tributylstannyl diphenylarsinate.
