Digital Interface Code Converter.

Abstract

This is the first quarterly report on the Digital Interface Code Converter program. During this quarter a mapping and its inverse were defined for converting from the 6 bit quantized, 3 segment companded PCM format of the TD-352 multiplexer to the 8 bit quantized, 15 segment companded PCM format of the TD-968 multiplexer. The mapping optimizes performance in the areas of signal-to-idle channel noise ratio, signal-to-quantizing noise ratio, and input-output linearity. The mapping was derived, and performance was predicted, using both mathematical analysis and computer simulation. Performance of the mapping was predicted for several signal amplitude distributions. The performance of the TD-352/cod converter/TD-968 system is better than that of a TD-352 multiplexer. (Author)
