Polyurethane Static Storage Tank Development.

Abstract

The objective of this report was to determine the causes for the early deterioration and fuel wet spotting of 5000 barrel flexible polyurethane fuel storage tanks in tropical environments, and to establish the corrective actions necessary to overcome the apparent deficiencies which should result in increased longevity of the tanks. A statistically designed experiment was performed on newly made material to assess the influence of several variables such as number of coats, coating type, coating surface condition, fabric type, biaxial stress, and weather exposure on the incidents of fuel wet spotting.
