Average Casualty Rates for War Games, Based on Historical Combat Data. Section I

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop average casualty rates for use in war game models of modern, nonnuclear war, based upon loss experience in World War 2 and the Korean War. Data on strengths and casualties for American units in a variety of engagements, already compiled by the Historical Evaluation and Research Organization was to be compared with similar data to be obtained on enemy strengths and casualties, analyzed, and presented in a form that would be useful as input for war gaming.
