Characteristics of Logistics Manager Positions in Headquarters Air Force Logistics Command Which Require a Masters Degree.

Abstract

The Air Force has begun a program to identify positions which require an officer who holds a Masters Degree. The intent of this program is to make better utilization of officers who have an advanced degree. This study was designed to determine the differences between logistics manager positions which require a Masters Degree and positions which do not require a Masters Degree. Twenty-four Masters Degree-holders were administered a questionnaire consisting of thirty-two managerial tasks. The thirty-two tasks were grouped into eight managerial dimensions and analyzed to characterize a position requiring a Masters Degree. Three of the eight managerial dimensions were found to have significantly higher ratings. The three were: creativity and innovation, decision-making, and planning. (Author)
