An Analysis of Reliability and Maintainability in Weapon System Design.

Abstract

To meet the requirements of effective weapon system support, the logistician must be able to communicate his needs to the design engineer. In this study the communication of reliability and maintainability (R + M) to the engineer tasked with system design is analyzed. The present Air Force R + M policy is reviewed and a study of R + M parameters conducted. R + M are examined in terms of definition, structure, and testing to determine their viability as design parameters. The conclusions indicate that these factors require more realistic treatment if they are to influence the design of new weapon systems. (Author)
