Digital Interface Code Converter.

Abstract

The purpose of this program is to design, develop, and fabricate one exploratory development model of the code converter. The code converter interfaces two PCM multiplexers which utilize different companding characteristics, bit rates, and synchronization code formats. During this quarter the design of the exploratory development model was completed. The code conversion is accomplished via a 256 x 8 bit programmable read only memory (ROM). A survey of ROM manufacturers was conducted to determine the best ROM for this application. The frame synchronization algorithms were analyzed. The synchronization acquisition time is less than 120 milliseconds; 90% of the time in an environment with a bit error probability of pe = .001.
